Caddis CAD REVIEW

Free DWG to SVG converter

Convert DWG drawings to clean, layered SVG.

Get a DWG into Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, a website or a laser cutter's design software. Caddis writes an SVG with one layer per CAD layer, sized at true scale when the drawing declares its units and is part-sized.

Why convert DWG to SVG?

SVG is the vector format of the web and of design tools. Designers use it to restyle plans for presentations, developers embed it in sites, and makers feed it to laser and vinyl cutters (Glowforge, Cricut, xTool) that prefer SVG to DXF.

How to convert DWG to SVG

  1. Choose your DWG (or DXF) file above, or drag it onto the box.
  2. Check that SVG is selected. You can switch to any other output.
  3. Select Convert. The file downloads straight away. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Will the SVG import at the right size?

If the DWG declares its drawing units ($INSUNITS) and is up to 3 m across, yes: the document size is written in millimetres. Larger drawings and drawings without declared units scale to fit, so check one known dimension and scale to match.

Can I edit the result in Illustrator or Inkscape?

Yes. Everything is ordinary paths grouped by layer and colour. Text arrives as stroked lettering rather than live text.

Which DWG versions can be converted?

DWG files saved by AutoCAD Release 14 through the current AutoCAD 2018 format (used by AutoCAD 2018 and later). 2007-format files (AutoCAD 2007–2009) are only partially supported, so some content may be missing. Use the free DWG version checker if you're not sure which version you have.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is read and converted by the Caddis engine running inside your browser tab. It is never sent to a server, so confidential drawings stay on your device.

Need to measure or mark up the drawing too?

The same engine powers the free Caddis viewer on the web and on iPhone. Open DWG, DXF, STEP and STL files, measure, and add markup, all on your device.
